Well it appears EA’s license agreement with the NFLPA could be coming to an abrupt halt as a class action lawsuit has been filed against them in federal court recently. The license agreement they’ve had in place for a few years now with the NFLPA granted them exclusive rights to player licensing such as names and numbers, and other rights that made other NFL games close up shop.
You can read the laughable lawsuit here thanks to TMZ, (link). The reason this lawsuit won’t make it to far is because it has no standing as the NFL and NFLPA can use their licensing however the wish really. The lawsuit claims that the exclusive deal has driven up the price for Madden NFL football almost 70% over the past few years, and no signs of it being lower.
The lawsuit is also claiming the because of this exclusive deal some NFL games have had to be closed down, and has prevented other games from entering the market. The only problem is, that this isn’t true as other football games have indeed been put on the market since this deal was made, the only thing is they can’t have any signs of the NFL in them.
Either way, we wish the folks good luck with their case, and perhaps it will lower the cost of Madden NFL football some.

EA should be prevented from buying licenses like that. It does prevent 2k from truely creating a great football game. One that can actually be played past 4 seasons… unlike Madden 08
